Carmen Electra, 50, says joining OnlyFans has been 'empowering': 'I'm my own boss'

Carmen Electra is getting a little closer to her millions of fans.

In May, the Baywatch alum, 50, announced that she joined OnlyFans, a subscription-based platform that delivers content directly to paying users. Now she's opening up about the experience, calling it an "intense" and "empowering" process.

"What I realized is that OnlyFans is a safe place where you can be your own creator," she said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. "I have become my own creative director, my own stylist, my own visionary. You're one-on-one with the fans, so they can do requests, and I love it. It can be really, really fun. And I’ve had a blast creating photos, getting videos, and just allowing my fans to follow me wherever I go on these journeys in my life. That's exactly what I wanted to do."

While Electra had toyed with the idea of creating an OnlyFans for a while, she explained she eventually bit the bullet after receiving encouragement to make the leap.

"It's a common thing that's happened to me throughout my career. I mean, I'm talking in the very beginning," she said. "I remember I would go to the mall here in L.A., and I would just go walking around the mall. I didn't have enough money to buy anything, but I would look in the store and people would walk up to me and say, 'Are you an actress? Are you a model?' And they would ask me the same things and would say, 'You should get into acting!' Or 'You should do this, do that,' and I think with OnlyFans, I heard about it multiple times to the point where I decided to look into it."

Of course, Electra isn’t the only celebrity hopping on the OnlyFans train. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Denise Richards, her daughter Sami Sheen, actress Bella Thorne, rapper Cardi B and actor Tyler Posey are among the stars who have also joined the subscription platform.

On advice she has for Richards and Sheen, who made headlines when they each signed up, she says "be honest about where you are and what your platform is and what your fans will see within your photos and your videos."

"Be very honest, and be true to who you are," Electra continued. "Stay true to your fans and the people that are supporting you, and have fun with it. That's the message I've always had, and I always thought, if you're not having fun, why do it?"

Electra says the process of creating content on the site has been immensely rewarding.

"There's no one telling you what to do; I'm my own boss," she said. "It's intense and very empowering. It's so self-empowering. And creatively, I've always had so many fun and creative ideas, and there's been times when I've been able to follow through with those with different projects I'm working on."

Electra said she initially joined the platform in an effort to "be in control" of her own images.

"People are going to do what they want to do anyway with your photos," she told People. "You might as well be in control of them and follow what you feel like doing inside."

"I just felt like, 'Yeah, I need to do this,'" she explained. "I, for once, have this opportunity to be my own boss and have my own creative vision to share with my fans without someone standing over me, telling me, 'Don't do this, don't do that. Cover up this.'"

She added, "People are going to do what they want to do anyway with your photos, you might as well be in control of them and follow what you feel like doing inside."
