Carrie Underwood is finally addressing the hype about her appearance

Despite warning fans that she “may look different” after requiring more than 40 stitches for a facial injury, Carrie Underwood has been making headlines for looking, well – completely fine.

In a new interview with Storme Warren for Sirius XM Radio station The Highway, Underwood finally opened up about her 2017 accident in which she suffered a broken wrist and cuts to the face.

I just fell down. I was walking the dogs out to so do their thing after dinner and I was clumsy and I tripped and I held onto the dog leashes with my left hand and I went to catch myself with my right hand,” Underwood told Warren. “I had missed the step. There was one lone step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been fine. And I held onto the leashes.”

The 35-year-old singer said she initially didn’t think she was hurt telling listeners, “I thought I just busted my lips and I walked back inside and took off my coat and said ‘oh no!’ It wasn’t pretty. I had a chipped tooth.”

Underwood admitted that the ominous warning issued to her fan club about possibly “looking different” wasn’t meant to be dramatic.

“Back when I injured myself, you don’t know how things will turn out. When you’re in it, it’s stitches and all that good stuff,” she explained. “We put a memo out to the fan club because I thought someone is going to catch me at the Kroger and they’ll be like what’s going on.”

When asked if there was serious damage to her face, Underwood told Warren that the damage was only to her skin. However, she revealed she is still not fully recovered.

The hardest part was my wrist, I can’t use my appendage and pick my kid up and make food. I have a metal plate in my wrist.”

On Sunday there were reports that Underwood was “terrified” to make her highly anticipated performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. Despite the concern, Underwood appeared picture perfect during her performance of her new single, “Cry Pretty.”

“It’s the most shaken anyone has ever seen her,” an insider revealed. “This whole ordeal. She was terrified of people seeing the scars.”

Underwood performed at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards for the first time since her November 12, 2017 accident.

While some fans are angered at the hype over Underwood’s scars, many are just glad to have new music to listen to. The singer recently announced her new album will be released on Sept. 14.

“At this point in my career, I feel stronger and more creative than ever. I think you can hear that in this new album,” Underwood said in a press release. “It’s emotional, it’s soulful, it’s real and we also have some fun on there too. I hope everyone loves it as much as I have loved making it.”
