Celebrities Keep Styling Their Sneakers in a Way That’s so Reminiscent of Princess Diana

Princess Diana is the OG style influencer. There is no way around it. She wore tennis skirts before American Apparel made them popular. She wore bike shorts before the Kardashians made them red-carpet appropriate. And even in the day and age where fashion influencer is a viable career option with thousands of them offering up #ootds every minute, Princess Diana always tops the list when it comes to actually being influential.

Of course, part of Prince Di’s appeal was the glamour, the gowns, and the jewels that cost even more than all the glamour and gowns combined. But what made her style so beloved wasn’t the inaccessible gala fits but the athleisure- inspired looks with college sweatshirts, running shoes, and chunky socks. Recently, that very aesthetic she made famous appears to be on every single supermodel’s moodboard.

While on her way to Bar Pitti in Manhattan, Bella Hadid wore a tight cami top, black bike shorts and a pair of Solomon sneakers with mid-calf white ankle socks. Emily Ratajowski has worn exclusively New Balance sneakers with socks — whether she’s in a bikini or a mini dress — all summer. And Selena Gomez marked her return back to music in Blackpink’s “Ice Cream” video in a pair of Puma sneakers with white cotton socks like these. Clearly, it’s an easy vintage look that works regardless of what you’re wearing, where you’re going, or whether you’re royal or not.
