Celebrities React to Donald and Melania Trump's COVID-19 Diagnosis
The president tweeted that he and the first lady had tested positive for coronavirus early Friday morning.
On Friday morning Donald Trump tweeted that he and wife Melania Trump had tested positive for coronavirus.
Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

Naturally, the news sent shockwaves through the country. Even a cursory glance at Twitter this morning is … a lot. Reactions have ranged from well-wishes to something more akin to a “told you so” for a president who has consistently downplayed the dangers of a virus that has claimed the lives of 208,000 Americans and counting.
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who is reportedly being tested for COVID-19 after sharing the debate stage with Trump on Tuesday, expressed his thoughts and prayers for the president on Friday morning, tweeting, “Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.”
Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.

Similar messages came from several political figures and commentators, including Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, and Rachel Maddow.
Doug and I join Joe Biden and Dr. Biden in wishing President Trump and the First Lady a full and speedy recovery. We’re keeping them and the entire Trump family in our thoughts.

Karen and I send our love and prayers to our dear friends President @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS Melania Trump. We join millions across America praying for their full and swift recovery. God bless you President Trump & our wonderful First Lady Melania.

God bless the president and the first lady. If you pray, please pray for their speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.
This virus is horrific and merciless — no one would wish its wrath on anyone.
We must get its spread under control. Enough.— Rachel Maddow MSNBC (@maddow) October 2, 2020
Others were more critical:
Blatant disregard for science and basic disregard for facts...leads to COVID.

He went to a fundraiser with his own supporters without a mask knowing he was exposed. I can’t get over it.

I don’t think it’s a lie. Calling something a hoax for 6 months and then getting it is not a good strategy.

I don’t get how Melania got it - she’s been social distancing from trump since they got married

Tonight is strange and surreal as it pretty much mirrors every other night of 2020. Bottom line: wear masks, get tested, stay six feet apart and remember that this virus can effect every one of us from the most powerful to the least. The one thing we have right now is science. 🙏

As someone who has had #COVID19 and still suffers from post-covid syndrome, I can honestly say with all that I am that I wouldn’t wish this virus on my worst enemy.
Please wear a mask.

Trump has repeatedly refused to take or endorse precautions to curtail the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a mask. During the debate on Tuesday he even appeared to attack Biden for … taking CDC guidance seriously?

“I wear masks when needed,” he said. “I don't wear masks like [Biden]. Every time you see him, he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen.”
