Lady Gaga and Kate Middleton now have at least one thing in common. They are big fans of wearing cornflower blue.

On Sunday night, Lady Gaga wore a glamorous cornflower blue Valentino haute couture dress on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. It was a look that many compared to Judy Garland’s own powder blue look from the 1954 version of A Star Is Born.

The duchess, however, has been wearing the lilac-infused blue shade for years now. In one of her most notable photo ops, in 2013, Middleton chose a cornflower blue polka dot dress by Jenny Packham to debut her first newborn, Prince George. In September 2018, at the wedding of her friend Sophie Carter, Middleton recycled one of her go-to cornflower blue coats designed by Catherine Walker. She originally wore the coat in 2017 during a visit to Berlin.

The cornflower is actually Germany’s national flower. The color is sometimes referred to as Prussian blue. As the Telegraph reports, Queen Louise of Prussia fled Berlin after Napoleon attacked and hid her children in a field of cornflowers. The color has become a favorite among royals, including Princess Diana. Now with Lady Gaga standing behind this color trend, we predict you’ll continue to see stars making fashion statements in this color throughout the year. Get a head start now and shop eight cornflower blue items —  from dresses to nail polish — that you can use to put together your best looks for 2019.
