Barron Trump doesn't live a life like most kids his age. The 11-year-old's dad happens to be the president, his mom is the first lady, his house is a global tourist attraction and the trips he takes with his family are met with constant attention from the press and photographers. And that attention, unfortunately, includes criticism over what he wears.

Conservative website The Daily Caller published an article Monday titled "It's High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing Like He's in the White House." "Barron was returning to the White House from New Jersey on Sunday and while the president and first lady traveled in their Sunday best, young Barron looked like he was hopping on Air Force One for a trip to the movie theater," entertainment reporter Ford Springer wrote. "The youngest Trump doesn't have any responsibilities as the president's son, but the least he could do is dress the part when he steps out in public."

The article was immediately met with backlash, and for good reason. The kid is 11 years old, and never asked for a life in the spotlight. And Chelsea Clinton, a former first kid herself, agreed. She responded on Twitter, saying, "It's high time the media and everyone leave Barron Trump alone and let him have the private childhood he deserves."

Neither Springer nor the Daily Caller has publicly responded to the criticism online. "Like all first families have in the past, we want everyone to respect Barron's privacy and let him be a kid," the first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN. First kids are traditionally considered off-limits when it comes to press scrutiny.

This isn't the first time Chelsea has come to Barron's defense, either, even though she's a fierce critic of President Trump. Right around his dad's inauguration, Barron became the target of internet trolls, and she wasn't having that. "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does - to be a kid," Chelsea wrote on social media. "Standing up for every kid also means opposing [President Trump's] policies that hurt kids."
