From Town & Country

While most of us have spent quarantine binging The Sopranos and baking cookies, Rebecca Gardner has used her seven months sheltered in her Savannah home crafting and curating an exquisite online shop of everything you might need (and definitely will want) to throw a party. Parties now? you might wonder, since, of all the things that Covid-19 upended, one of the most devastating (to a certain set) was the cancellation of so many gatherings—no more weddings or galas, cocktail parties or elegant dinners.

But when this pandemic ends, the parties will resume, and it would help to be prepared. Even now, depending on each state's restrictions, gatherings are allowed—and a small backyard dinner is still no excuse to skimp on the fine details.

Enter Gardner. "I've had a shop in my head for as long as I can remember, partly because I love to travel and shop and partly because I've found that even my most stylish friends lack the essentials to host a dinner with panache," says the event planner extraordinaire (clients include Lauren Santo Domingo and St. Regis) and the undisputed master of the whimsical and irreverent tablescape. Luckily, the pandemic gave her the time to finally sift through a decade's worth of inspiration files, post-its, and tear sheets.

The final creation, Houses & Parties, which launched this week, is an eclectic assemblage of tabletop items, barware, and the offbeat accessories to really dress up a fête, from ceramic insects and Chinese porcelain figurines, to tasseled Happy Menocal menu cards and marbled party crackers.

In other words, it's a one-stop shop—the mix consists of private labels, artist commissions, and vintage—for easy entertaining. "Right now, we have an obligation to be careful and thoughtful when gathering," Gardner says, "but that doesn't rule out fabulous. Pick a day and make it special!"
