Chinese ‘invisibility cloak’ stuns the internet
Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak might actually be real, if a viral YouTube video serves as proof.
The video, featuring Chen Shiqu, deputy head of Criminal Investigation Department at Ministry of Public Security China, shows him in a garden holding up what appears to be a shimmery sheet of cloth.
He then drapes it in front of himself and seemingly disappears from view and melting into the background.
The description of the video reads, “This is a quantum technology-made cloth that is made of transparent material, it can reflect the light wave around the person who wears it so it can make the person disappear.”
However, most viewers believe it’s a hoax, with the footage edited using software to get the effect of invisibility.
“Softwares such as Adobe’s After Effects, Nuke or Blackmagic Fusion can edit the background and blend the object into it,” Quantum Video prodcer Zhu Zhensong told the Liberation Daily. “The effect has previously seen in a lot of action movies.”
