Chrissy Metz strongly believes 'pants are leg prisons'

Chrissy Metz’s favorite piece of clothing is a cape jacket from ELOQUII. She also likes sneakers and she “loves skirts.” But, the This Is Us actress admitted during her keynote at theCURVYcon on Saturday that she hates pants — and expressed her dislike in the strongest of terms.

“I think pants are leg prisons,” Metz boldly stated. The actress, who’s originally from Homestead, Fla., where temperatures can reach over 100 degrees, said “it’s too hot, nobody wants to put pants on.”

What’s her alternative? “A good cotton skirt,” she said, “with pockets.”

Yet as a kid, she loved tutus, but not necessarily ballet, which she took while living in Japan. “I remember going to ballet and all I could think about was what’s for snack? I’m like plié, whatever, what’s for snack? Cheese and crackers, two of my favorite things,” she confessed. “But I remember I love a tutu, I love a tight, but I was like I don’t really want to do the ballet thing so my mom put me in judo — I was a strong little cookie I think I injured two girls — and my mom was like, ‘And done!’”

Throughout her childhood abroad, Metz “never really thought about being a big girl,” she said. “I don’t remember feeling different, I think our parents sort of shelter us as kids, whether it’s them projecting their stuff on us or not, but I didn’t really think about it until I moved back to the states and I got a little older and it became a ‘thing.’”

It’s that “thing” though that helped her develop her comedic career, using it as a way to feel acceptance when maybe her own self-acceptance was a “little bit sketchy.”
