Chrissy Teigen is one of the many celebrities to approve bathrobes as outerwear. Last night, the mom and model stepped out in NYC in a long purple silk robe.

Walking with her husband, John Legend, Teigen wore the robe over a black tank top and ripped jeans while teetering on strappy heels. Not exactly the outfit we’d wear under a robe, but apparently we’re in the minority, as many celebrities have adopted this look. Earlier this year, Beyoncé made waves at the NBA All-Star Game in a floral-printed silk kimono from Gucci’s Spring Summer 2017 collection, which featured black Persian lamb and purple mink fur, embroidered toggles, and patch details. The robe will set you back a cool $21,945. She also wore it over ripped jeans and strappy heels — apparently that’s the traditional under-robe outfit among celebs. And while that is probably the moment when outerwear robes hit it big, Queen Bey didn’t originate the look — Teigen herself actually wore a similar Gucci robe over denim shorts and a crop top nine months prior — of course, she was casually cooking at home when she wore this outfit.

Mother's Day Brunch – low and slow scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles and roasted bacon, oh my!

And others have worn robes outside before Beyoncé did. We’ll never forget the time Mariah Carey stepped onto Ellen’s set in a dramatic floor-length red silk robe. Teigen herself stepped out in a pink silk robe while pregnant with Luna last year. And now it’s come full circle. But walking the streets of Manhattan donning a robe as a coat is Teigen’s way of fully committing to the robe-as-outerwear movement.

Next, we’ll see her on the street in a terry cloth “cardigan.” Oh wait, she already did that.
