Chrissy Teigen Narrowly Avoids Wardrobe Malfunction

A little wind and rain won’t stop Chrissy Teigen from keeping it cool and coiffed on the way to the red carpet. The model may have had to battle blustery weather en route to the Time 100 Gala in New York City last night, where her husband, John Legend, performed, but when it came to any inadvertent reveals, well, she simply wasn’t having it.

Spotted outside the event in a sparkling gold strapless number with a nearly waist-high slit, Teigen managed to narrowly avoid a wind-induced wardrobe malfunction — and she knows it. “Not today, Satan!” the social media savvy model and mom captioned a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post showing the near miss.

Her rain-wet hair may have been swept unceremoniously across her face, and the breeze may have blown the skirt of her shimmering dress dangerously far to the side, but fear not, wardrobe police: try as it might, the wind revealed little more than Teigen’s incredibly toned legs. (And we’ve all seen those before.)

Not today, Satan!

Fans of Teigen were quick to appreciate her well-captioned quip, chiming in on Instagram with comments including almost too many hahaha’s and laugh-crying emoji’s to count alongside more specific missives calling the funny femme “everything I want to be and more.” Twitter users joined in, praising the clever Chrissy for maintaining her composure — and sense of humor — amid the elements.

But they shouldn’t be surprised by Teigen’s pitch-perfect response: The model is no stranger to both wardrobe malfunctions and taking them in [stylish] stride. Case in point? Just a couple of months ago, when a Twitter user called her out for a momentary nip slip in the stands of the Super Bowl, she responded with a perfect, and perfectly self-deprecating, one-liner: “boom goes the dynamite.”

Perhaps her most notorious wardrobe malfunction took place at the American Music Awards last fall, when her revealing black gown by Yousef Akbar revealed a little more than intended. But Chrissy, as always, took the mishap in stride, posting an Instagram picture of herself at the event alongside “apologies to anyone harmed mentally or physically by my hooha” and a heartfelt thank-you to laser hair removal. And Akbar approved: “To me, Chrissy wore the creation perfectly,” he later told the press. “Really, the best thing to do is just be confident and don’t pay attention to what people say. … Lots of people respond to risky fashion with negativity, but if it fits with that person’s personality, then that’s great.”

Teigen’s personality, clearly, is not one to be deterred by a little criticism. Back in 2015, she suffered the first of her side-slit issues, so to speak, experiencing what she called a “wardrobe malfunction of the highest caliber” at the CFDA Fashion Awards when the already high slit in her Solace London dress decided to rip right open.

But no matter: Teigen managed to enjoy the rest of the CFDAs by carefully positioning her vintage Swarovski clutch over the mishap, and mere months after that now infamous AMA red carpet snafu, she again risked a super-high slit, sans drama, at an anniversary party for New York City boutique Material Good. Likewise, she may have been tempting fate by donning a straight-from-the-runway Gucci striped cardigan, sans undershirt, at the airport this March, but despite a few almost-nip-slips, the mother of one managed to make it on her plane sans any unexpected reveals.

Not that they would have necessarily slowed her down in the slightest, of course. “Not today, Satan.” This mother has places to be.
