This week, John Legend was awarded the honourable title of 'Sexiest Man Alive' by People magazine.

Naturally, Chrissy Teigen - wife to Legend - responded in a classically hilarious way, changing her Twitter bio to: 'Currently sleeping with People's sexiest man alive' and providing a running commentary as the news of the award took hold:

Legend's response to his new title - which adds to his rare EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) award status - was slightly more humble and bewildered. Especially, as the 40-year-old is following in the footsteps of previously crowned sexiest men alive that include the 2018 winner, Idris Elba.

'1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 Idris Elba as #SexiestManAlive,' the singer wrote alongside a side by side picture of himself back in the day, in 1995, compared to present day Elba.

Teigen then tried to rid her husband of these insecurities by tweeting: 'Yeah but let's see an @idriselba pic from 1995 (prob still very hot).'

Elba then took matters into his own hands by responding to the chef by providing photographic evidence of what he did look like 24 years ago and, well, after seeing the picture, Teigen conceded that 1995 Idris Elba might have been slightly more sexy than 1995 John Legend.

At least, she tried.

In his accompanying interview with People, Legend said: 'I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure.

'Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!'

Back yourself, John Legend!
