Christie Brinkley Shared a Bathing Suit Photo Celebrating Her Hip Replacement

She injured her hip in a 1994 helicopter accident.

Christie Brinkley just revealed she's had a hip replacement

The 66-year-old supermodel posted a powerful photo of herself to Instagram on Jan. 5. The photo features her on a boat in a bathing suit showing off a bandage on her hip.

"New Year, New Hip! Yes that's a band aid on my hip," she wrote. "I injured my hip in a back country skiing helicopter crash on a mountaintop in Telluride many years ago."

She went on to explain that she's been needing a hip replacement for a while but has been putting it off, but like many others, she had a lot of free time this year.

"The pain in my hip got a little bit worse each year," she wrote. "12 years ago I was told it needed to be replaced but the surgery was daunting! And I had things to do! But quarantine put a damper on any plans so I decided to finally take time for myself and do something about the pain that had progressively influenced my decisions."

She goes on to say that her recovery time was fairly quick. She had the surgery on Thanksgiving and was "dancing in my kitchen by New Years."

She then encouraged her followers to always opt for the decision that will benefit their wellbeing most.

"If you've been putting something off that could improve your well-being but hesitate out of some sort of fear, I suggest learning as much as you can about the process and the results and expectations."

She concluded the post saying she was happy with her decision to take care of herself.

"I found the best Doctor for my circumstances and voila! I can't tell you how happy I am to have done this. Now I can focus on getting back in shape and rebuilding my strength. Never to old to get hip!" She joked.

The accident happened back in 1994 during one of Brinkley's skiing trips in Colorado. Last year, she took to Instagram to pay tribute to the accident on the 25th-anniversary writing "not a day goes by that I have not counted my blessing for being alive"
