Christopher Reeve's Son Is Running the NYC Marathon to Honor His Late Parents' Legacy

From Good Housekeeping

This Sunday on November 6, Will Reeve, son of the late Christopher Reeve, is running the TCS New York Marathon for an amazing purpose: to honor his late parents and follow in their humanitarian footsteps.

Similar to the famous character his dad played, Superman, Reeve works a normal job during the day as a sports reporter for ESPN, but he is also saving lives as he raises $35,000 for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, an organization set up by his late parents that supports those with spinal cord injuries and raises funds for medical research. Reeve is a member of the board alongside his half-brother Matthew Reeve and half-sister Alexandra Reeve (children from Christopher Reeve's previous relationship with Gae Exton.) "Everything I do, I try to honor my parents' legacy, I want to keep their names alive," he told the New York Post.

Although Reeve has always been an athletic guy like his father, he told the New York Post that he was never a runner. With the help of professional running coach Mark Zenobia, he has slowly but surely been preparing for the marathon after years of putting it off. "Finally I realized, 'What kind of example am I setting when many of the people in the spinal-injury world for whom I advocate would do anything just to be able to step up to the starting line?' " he said.

In 1995, Christopher Reeve became a quadriplegic after being thrown from a horse during an equestrian competition. Before dying in 2005 from a heart attack, he was known as an advocate for those with spinal cord injuries, along with this wife Dana Morosini, who died in 2006 after battling lung cancer.

If you're watching the race, watch out for Team Reeve in pink, orange and yellow tops.
