Clear the Shelters is back to find homes for thousands of pets, and you can help!

From Aug. 10 to Sept. 10, NBC and Telemundo stations nationwide will partner with over 1,400 animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and raise life-saving donations for their operations.

Now in its tenth year, Clear the Shelters has helped create more than one million pet adoptions and raised over $4.5 million for animal welfare.

In 2023, Clear the Shelters led to more than 158,000 adoptions, helping the campaign cross the all-time one million adoptions mark and raise over $575,000.

The campaign hopes to match or exceed the 2023 numbers through various efforts. For example, on Aug. 13, NBCU Local and Clear the Shelter partners Greater Good Charities, Hill's Pet Nutrition, and The Animal Rescue Site, will conduct a pet airlift to transport over 100 cats and dogs from crowded shelters in Louisiana and Alabama to New Jersey. Shelters with space will take in the pets upon landing, after which they will provide treatment for the animals and work to find them homes.

Animal lovers who want to take part in Clear the Shelter through adoption can meet pets in person at partner shelters and rescues (available to search online at CleartheShelters.com) or online through the WeRescue website or app, where prospective pet parents can view rescue pets in their area and communicate directly with shelters.

Those who aren't in the place to welcome a pet can still support Clear the Shelters by donating to the local rescue or shelter of their choice through CleartheShelterFund.org. The online platform, built by Fundraise Up, allows donors the ability to cover transaction fees so that 100 percent of their funds go directly to helping animals.

Clear the Shelters has the support of countless animal lovers, including Amanda Seyfried, the host of the 2024 Clear The Shelters half-hour television special, which will premiere on NBC stations and COZI TV nationwide on Aug. 16.

"As a lifelong animal lover who has rescued and fostered pets, I know the life-changing impact of welcoming pets into your life and understand the growing challenges faced by animal shelters and rescues," Seyfried said in a statement. "That’s why I’m so proud to participate in the 10th annual Clear the Shelters and support its mission of promoting pet adoption and raising funds that benefit animal welfare."
