Former “Bachelor” Colton Underwood has confirmed he contracted COVID-19 — just days after taking to Instagram to share a “PSA” about washing your hands. According to his most recent health update, life with the virus has been difficult as he self-isolates and recovers at his girlfriend’s family home.

“The last few days were rougher than I expected. The most prominent symptoms are my cough, night sweats and shortness of breathe,” Underwood told fans. “Breathing is challenging, the best way to describe it is feeling like I only have access to 20 per cent of my lungs. I can only imagine how people with pre-existing health conditions feel with this.”

The 28-year-old said he has been using inhalers and was prescribed antibiotics and hydroxychloroquine, a drug commonly used to treat malaria and inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, as well as lupus.

“This morning was the first time that I’ve felt any real type of improvement since the beginning of this,” he said. “I’m hopeful that I’ve turned the corner and will be back to 100% soon. We are very lucky that all of this was manageable at home after getting the proper medicine.”

On Saturday, Underwood posted a video to his social media channels to inform fans that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Underwood told his more than two million followers that despite what they’ve heard about COVID-19 impacting only the elderly, it can happen to anyone at any age.

“I’m 28, I consider myself pretty healthy I work out regularly, I eat healthy, I became symptomatic a few days ago, got my test results back today and they are positive…it’s been kicking my ass just to put it very bluntly,” the former NFL player said. “For those wondering what my symptoms are: headache, body aches, night sweats, fever, shortness of breath and a cough. Currently I get winded doing simple tasks like walking up the stairs getting out of bed.”

The news came just days after the star shared a photo of himself wearing a $185 CAD hoodie, emblazoned with the words, “Please wash your hands.”

Underwood’s girlfriend, Cassie Randolph, whom he met during season 23 of “The Bachelor,” said her entire family is doing their best to keep their distance from him while he recovers.

“We're here with my family. We've been doing the social distancing and been quarantining ourselves for the past week now. Now we all can't leave the house,” Randolph said in an Instagram Story. “We're going to keep you updated on symptoms and how this thing is going. We're all making sure to take very good care of ourselves and staying healthy. We're trying to one, stay positive, two, take a lot of vitamins, and get a lot of sleep.”
