A Complete Timeline of Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich's Whirlwind Relationship

It sounds like the beginnings of a modern-day fairy tale. Demi Lovato, Disney Channel royalty, vocal super diva, triple-threat superstar, meets charming, handsome Young and the Restless star Max Ehrich. While that all makes for a tale as old as time (at least in the digital age), it all really only goes back to March 2020, when Lovato and Ehrich went public with their romance. Now that they're engaged, here's a look back at how it all started.

March 2020

Lovato was decidedly single in March, letting fans know that she was working on herself and dabbling in dating apps. It didn't sound particularly serious at the time, but it seemed like she was open to finding love. She had broken up with model Austin Wilson in December 2019.

"I was on dating apps for a while, but as I've spent some time with myself over the past couple months, I realized that I am the type of person that will find any way to regulate when I'm sad or lonely or whatever," Lovato said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I have to fight those battles on my own, and I can't let somebody come in and fix those issues for me. So right now I'm single and spending my Saturday nights by myself."

While nobody knows exactly how Lovato and Ehrich met, the two started interacting on social media. Ehrich hinted at a burgeoning relationship by posting street art featuring Albert Einstein holding a "love is the answer" sign, sharing poems about love, and even posting for "mi armor." Lovato Likes every single one of his romantic Instagram posts.

When he posted a shirtless photo captioned "when u realize u should've packed more for your quarantine stay," she commented, "Fine by me..."

On March 24, he posted a black-and-white clip of himself singing Coldplay's hit "Yellow." He captioned the video "4D," which fans took as a sly way of dedicating it "for Demi."

People and E! News confirmed that the two were dating in late March.

A source told E! that Ehrich was "a good influence on Demi, and they have a lot in common."

Lovato has an unintentional cameo in one of Ehrich's Instagram Live broadcasts.

E! also confirms that the two are quarantining together.

A source told E! that "they've really gotten to know each other on a different level" while self-isolating.

"She is feeling great and loves being with him," the source said. "He supports her sobriety and is very understanding. It's going great and they both see it moving in a serious direction. She has loved having him at her house and trying out living together. So far, it's working very well."

Engagement rumors start to surface, but sources explain that it's still too early.

"It's still early in the relationship and Demi and Max are enjoying just getting to know each other," a source said.

They're not shy about their relationship on Instagram, either.

Tweets from back in December 2011 surface showing that Ehrich had said he was crushing on Lovato. "All I wanted for Christmas was Demi Lovato. #cantalwaysgetwhatyouwant...." he tweeted.

Lovato posted a screenshot of that specific tweet on her Instagram story and wrote, "We love a little manifestation."

Lovato doubled down on the self-love in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, saying that being single wasn't something she was taking issue with, but not specifically mentioning Ehrich at all.

"I've never felt more loved," Lovato said in the interview, which was reportedly conducted in early March. "Which is really cool because I'm single as all hell right now."

Engagement rumors fly again. The two spend some time in Joshua Tree, California.

"Had an amazing weekend in the magical desert of Joshua Tree with my love @maxehrich," Lovato wrote on Instagram. "I went to work on a project but it was so nice to get away for a couple days.. thank you for making me so happy my dear.. I love going on adventures with you."

In an Instagram post celebrating Ehrich's 29th birthday, Lovato lets all her followers know that she's very, very much in love.

"Being with you makes life SO MUCH FUN. We literally act like hooligans on the daily and don't give a fuck if we're embarrassing ourselves if others are around!!" Lovato wrote. "I spend my days with you, bare faced and in a bathing suit.. I feel unconditionally loved and accepted by you in a way that I've never felt before.. I can't explain it or you.. you're indescribable, you beautiful, man. Inside and out you are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.."

The two are officially engaged.

"I knew I loved you the moment I met you," Lovato wrote on Instagram. "It was something I can't describe to anyone who hasn't experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too. You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself. I'm honored to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I'm ecstatic to start a family and life with you."

"Words cannot express how infinitely in love with you I am forever and always and then some," Ehrich wrote on his own feed. "I cannot spend another second of my time here on Earth without the miracle of having you as my wife."
