Cool, wet weather expected in Sacramento. Will it clear up by the Monday commute?
After a stretch of warm weather, rain and cooler temperatures are on the way to the Sacramento region and Northern California.
There’s a 50% chance of showers in the Sacramento area after 4 p.m. Sunday, with the chance of precipitation greatest north of Interstate 80.
“It will be very light showers,” said Jeffery Wood, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “We’re not expecting too much in the form of accumulation.”
The chance of rain, however, will increase just in time for the Monday morning commute. Rain is likely to start hitting the region around 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. Monday, with the chance for wet weather tapering off Monday night. In total, less than a half-inch of rain is expected to fall by Monday night, Wood said.
Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s are forecast Tuesday through Thursday.
For those traveling in the Sierra, “we do have some snow chances in the higher mountains and passes,” Wood said. The best chances for snow will be Monday night and Tuesday, starting at between 7,000 and 8,500 feet and dropping to 5,000 or 6,000 feet on Tuesday.
Still, Wood said drivers should expect “minor impacts,” especially on Interstate 80 and Highway 50.
“There might be some slick roads and some slight travel delays,” he said.
