Coronation Street's Jenny left devastated as The Rovers is closed

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street airs sad scenes for Jenny Connor next week as she learns that the Rovers Return will be closed for an extended period.

Jenny learns the news from the manager at Waterford's – the firm which recently took over the pub after buying out the Newton & Ridley brewery.

The revelation comes as Jenny and her new partner Stephen Reid make plans to go on holiday to Thailand, where they can get away from everything.

Jenny is unaware that Stephen has an ulterior motive for the trip, wanting to flee from the UK following the discovery of Leo Thompkins' body.

The Waterford's manager then turns up to announce that The Rovers will be closed for an extensive refurbishment.

The contracts of the existing staff are all terminated with immediate effect – much to the shock of Jenny and her team.

Adam Barlow suggests that Jenny could have a case for unfair dismissal, but she may be too distracted to pursue it as she continues to worry about Leo's mysterious death.

Before long, Jenny and Stephen move in with Rita Tanner at her flat. They promise that they won't be bothering her for long, as their trip to Thailand is on the way.

Jenny, Glenda Shuttleworth, Daisy Midgeley, Sean Tully and Gemma Winter-Brown then watch on as the workmen start boarding up The Rovers.

Gemma reveals that she has applied for the deputy manager role with Waterford's. Daisy sees this move as a betrayal, having assumed that this job would go to Jenny.
