The number of coronavirus cases continues to rise significantly in the UK.

Here is the latest information on how many confirmed deaths and cases there are currently, how quickly it has spread and how many positive tests there have been in each local authority area.

How many people in the UK have died from coronavirus?

On Tuesday, the Department of Health said 6,159 people have died.

This was up 786 from Monday’s death toll, the biggest day-on-day increase since the outbreak began.

The previous highest increase was 708, recorded on Saturday.

How many people in the UK have coronavirus?

As of 9am on Tuesday, the Department of Health said there were 55,242 confirmed cases in the UK.

In total, 213,181 people have been tested.

How quickly has the virus spread in the UK?

Two weeks ago, on 24 March, there were 8,077 confirmed cases. This had risen by 47,165 to 55,242 on Tuesday.

On 1 March, there were just 35 cases.

The first two cases were announced on 31 January.
