Coronation Street actress Jodie Prenger has shared a sweet tribute to TV presenter and comedian Paul O'Grady.

Following the news of his passing earlier this week (March 28) the actress decided to pay her respects to animal loving O'Grady in the perfect manner – by adopting a dog in memory of him.

"Well Paul, this is for you kidda. We picked up this little angel on Sunday," Prenger wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of the new pup.

She went on to add that the dog's name had also been changed to Lily, to honour O'Grady's alter ego Lily Savage.

Prenger continued: "I’ve spoke to the amazing charity @silverfoxdogrescue and we will be renaming her Lily.

"May Pauls dedication to loving and rehoming animals live on forever."

The Corrie star's followers were quick to share their support for the move too. "This is a lovely thing and warmed my heart. I hope you have lots of fun with Lily and may she be as fun and cheeky as her namesake," one person wrote.

While another added: "She is gorgeous, what a lovely thing to do in his honour and to rename her Lily too. You sound as amazing as Paul was. May you have many happy years and adventures with your new addition."

O'Grady had been a huge animal lover throughout his life. Through presenting the award-winning ITV series Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs he became an ambassador for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, sharing his love for animals nationwide.

Two of his own beloved pooches, Buster and Olga, had even made several appearances alongside him on TV, featuring on The Paul O'Grady Show.
