Courteney Cox Shares Her Cosmetic Surgery Regrets

Courteney Cox has often been the focus of media scrutiny over her cosmetic surgery procedures, and now she has opened up about the reason for changing her appearance following her role in US sitcom Friends.

The actress, 52, shared her regrets with Bear Grylls during an episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls where she admitted that she succumbed to the pressure to look young in Hollywood.

In a video clip released from the show, the star explains that she has read some “pretty mean” comments about the way that she looks, but has been trying to “relax” over her appearance.

“The more you relax into it and the less I try,” she said. “Because sometimes you find yourself trying and then you look at a picture of yourself and go, ‘Oh, god.’ Like, you look horrible.”

Speaking of the work that she’s had done on her face, Courteney confessed: “I have done things that I regret, and luckily they’re things that dissolve and go away. So that’s good, because it’s not always been my best look.”

The former Friends star – who appears in each of the show’s 236 episodes as Monica Gellar – also revealed that ageing in the industry had put her under “pressure to maintain” her looks.

Speaking about looking young, she said: “There’s a pressure to maintain that, not just because of fame. Being a woman in this business… getting older is not the easiest thing. But I have learned lessons.”

She added: “I think I was trying to keep up with getting older, trying to chase that. It’s something you can’t keep up with,” before sharing her new motto: “Just let it be.”

Courteney, who confirmed that she is still in a relationship with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, 40, shared some of the more positive aspects of growing older too.

She said: “Just watching my daughter (Coco Arquette, 12) go through, you know, the game of life… I see so much of myself in her, and I’m glad that I’ve been through it, and learned enough now to actually help her go through things that are hard.”

These comments come after her former Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston, 47, criticised beauty expectations placed on women in the industry, remarking: “The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing.”

Running Wild With Bear Grylls airs exclusively in the UK on Discovery Channel at 9pm on Wednesdays.
