Friends fans have been sent into meltdown by a video of Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran recreating The Routine.

Last week, the long-anticipated Friends: The Reunion finally aired, but there was one thing missing - many viewers would have been hoping to see Monica and Ross's iconic dance routine recreated.

But while David Schwimmer didn't try to take on his character's famous dance 20 years on, Cox, 56, has clearly been practising and enlisted the help of famous friends Sheeran to give the fans what they wanted.

In a video posted to Instagram and captioned: "Just some routine dancing with a friend…", Cox showed she still remembered every move of The Routine.

Sheeran, who wasn't featured in Friends: The Reunion, posted the same video with: "Had a reunion of our own this weekend @courteneycoxofficial #theroutine #iknow #friends4eva #obviouslybetterthanross"

Singer Ryan Tedder commented: "Neeaaaaaarly perfect mate," while Cara Delevingne posted a series of heart emojis.

But Sheeran's performance wasn't quite as polished as Schwimmer's - when it got to the famous lift at the end, he and Cox both collapsed in a heap on the ground.

Friends fans were excited to see the cast back together.

Friends fans know the dance from the 1999 episode The One with The Routine, where brother and sister Ross and Monica get invited to TV broadcast Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve.

They are excited to be part of a show they used to watch on New Year's Eve as teenagers and decide they have to get on camera, but when the cameras keep turning away from them, they decide their best chance at stardom is to perform The Routine - a dance they made up at high school.

However, their plan backfires when the crew decide to feature the dance in their bloopers section of the show.
