Creator shares her ‘magic long sleeve’ trick and TikTok can’t get enough: ‘WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?!’
Be it an effective, temporary solution for creating an adjustable waistband on a pair of jeans that are a tad too tight or transforming a regular T-shirt into an adorable minidress, there’s no shortage of revelatory clothing hacks on TikTok. One dancer is adding her “magic long sleeve trick” to the mix.
On Sept. 24, Mikayla Geier (@mikaylageier), a Los Angeles-based ballerina and filmmaker who previously went viral for showcasing how she breaks in her pointe shoes, revealed how she transformed her vintage Karen Kane shirt into an effortless halter crop top.
“The girlies have been going feral for this top I wore in my last video, when, in fact, this is actually what the top looks like,” she said while holding up a long-sleeve shirt. “I saw this on TikTok somewhere, so I’m not taking credit for this.”
Geier said she begins by grabbing the bottom of the shirt and tying the two ends around her neck to achieve a halter.
“Next, you’re gonna take these, fold under, and tie it in the back or tie it into a cute little bow,” she explained, referring to the shirt’s collar and arms. “And then I like to just adjust this to make it look the way I want it to.”
Fellow TikTok users are commenting on the cleverness of Geier’s hack.
“Oooh that’s so clever,” @lesbianrourke wrote.
“WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?! SLAYYYYY,” @aly.zah also commented.
Geier says that utilizing this hack has helped her repurpose her winter garments for the summer months.
“Stop why have I never thought of this,” @an.nahhhh wrote in response to her video. To this, Geier replied, “It’s helped me wear winter stuff in summer which has been so fun!!”
Geier’s video is indicative of what appears to be Gen Z’s continued preference for sustainable fashion. Rather than purchasing only new items for the changing seasons, this “magic” hack allows for some articles of clothing to be worn for more diverse occasions.
