Wow, “The Crown” Really Nailed Princess Diana's Most Iconic Moments

After four years, The Crown fans will finally be introduced to Princess Diana's character in the upcoming season of the Netflix series, and by the looks of the on-set photos that have surfaced lately, it appears as if it will be worth the wait. Most recently, the show dropped a first look at actress Emma Corrin, who plays the late princess, in a very similar dress to the one Diana wore on her wedding day in 1981, and the resemblance between the two is seriously uncanny.

On Saturday, the show's Twitter account offered a full-length glimpse at the reimagined gown. "Emmy award-winning costume designer Amy Roberts wanted to capture the same spirit and style of David & Elizabeth Emanuel’s original design, without creating a replica for Emma Corrin," The Crown tweeted alongside an image of Corrin as Diana waiting in the wings of what is supposed to be St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

For her wedding to Prince Charles on July 29, 1981, Diana opted for an ivory silk taffeta gown heavily embellished with lace, sequins, ruffles, and 10,000 pearls. The dress famously featured a 25-foot train, and Diana accessorized with the Spencer family's heirloom tiara.

"The Emanuels, who designed the original, gave us the patterns, and then it was made for me,” Corrin recalled of the process of recreating the dress in the September issue of British Vogue. “We were filming the scene when you first see her in the wedding dress – I think it was Lancaster House in London – and I had a team of about 10 people helping me put it on, because it’s massive. I walked out and everyone went completely silent."

She continued, "More than anything else I wear in the series, it’s so… It’s her.”

The Crown season 4 premieres Nov. 15 on Netflix.
