If you’re looking for a cute backpack, either for a daily bag or eventual bag to carry to school or work, Fjällräven is a brand you’ve likely seen before — and one of their most popular bags is currently on sale as part of Nordstrom’s Spring Sale.

Originally designed for Swedish schoolchildren in the 1970s, this iconic backpack is practical, functional and durable. Crafted from water-resistant, Vinylon F fabric, this lightweight bag uses a two-way zip-around closure with a rain flap, meaning your valuables won’t get wet. Meant for commuting to work or school and traveling the world, the Fjällräven Kånken Water Resistant Backpack is easy to pack and wear
Available in 12 colours and big enough to fit most 13” laptops, this bag also has adjustable straps and snap-together top-carry handles for versatility. It also includes a foam insert for cushioning which can be removed and used as an on-the-go seat pad.

A cult favourite for good reason, this backpack is both stylish and functional whether you’re prepping for a long trek or simply commuting to the office.
“I’ve been eyeing this for a long while and the red colour caught my eye in store. So, impulsive buying took over me. I’m so surprised at how much it holds. The square shape and generous zipper makes it easy to access and the materials are well made. Water resistant, durable, strong but not cheap. Not scratchy canvas, it’s like a nice smooth almost-waxy texture. Unique. Just the right thickness. It fits my surface pro, iPad, 8x11 folders, makeup, keys and phone with extra space,” raves one customer. “I love it! Buying another.”
“I have bought this backpack three different times, I love it! It fits an insane amount inside – I can pack for a whole weekend (and I’m an over packer). It is also water resistant, and I can throw it in the wash when it needs a little clean up,” adds another.
While most customers love this bag for its ability to hold all of the essentials, some wish it was a bit bigger.
“The only thing that isn't the best about this bag is the small side pockets. My 21oz hydroflask used to fit just perfectly in my old Kånken, however, with the new one I recently ordered, the pockets are a bit tighter and the bottle no longer fits,” reads one review.
“This backpack is great! When it arrived I was super excited. It is a little small but overall it fits most of my belongings… the essentials. I like that it has side pockets to put my water bottle in,” adds another.
The verdict
The Fjällräven Kånken Water Resistant Backpack is loved by many for its ability to be both functional and stylish, however, if you are someone who has a lot of essentials, this may not be for you. This backpack promises to have enough room for the necessities, but if you’re an over-packer, it may not have enough space to suit your needs.
