Curvy woman pleads for wide calf boots that actually fit: 'It's my dream'

One of the biggest sartorial challenges curvy girls face is finding wide calf boots that actually fit. This frustration was echoed during theCURVYcon on Sept. 8 during a style workshop hosted by Chastity Garner Valentine, co-founder of theCURVYcon and a curvy fashion influencer herself. During the workshop, an audience member asked Valentine, “I would love to hear your advice on extra wide calf boots. I’ve only found one pair that I’ve ordered online that have ever actually fit.” The woman pleaded, “Somebody please make them with wide [calves] that are actually wide calf. That’s my dream.”

Valentine said the one trick she uses are wide calf inserts. “They’re an extra piece that goes into your boot that you can zip into your boot,” she says. “So that’s one thing that you can do. And then I mean, sometimes it [just] takes a little stretching out the boot.” If all else fails, Valentine says she resorts to cutting out the stretchy fabric portion of the boot altogether. “I have no shame in making my boots fit.”

BootBand is one company that offers wide calf inserts like the ones Valentine mentioned. It sells zip-up fabric inserts, which cost $55-$65, to expand the width of your boots.
