Cynthia Nixon Shared Her Thoughts on Replacing Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City

Sharon Stone's name has been thrown in the running for a potential new Samantha.

By now, it's no secret that Kim Cattrall has moved on from playing Samantha in Sex and the City, meaning a potential third film is still up in the air.

Still, some have floated the idea of replacing Cattrall with another actress — Sharon Stone, to be specific. On Tuesday, Cynthia Nixon weighed in on the idea during an appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

"I think Sharon would be of course totally amazing," Nixon said. "Kim was incredibly great as Samantha, I think Sharon would totally make it her own."

Nixon and Stone were both guests on the show to promote their new Netflix series, Ratched. Stone, for her part, told host Andy Cohen that the casting speculation was news to her, but said that any time she had the chance to work with Nixon would "be an honor."

Nixon also noted that she's "heard many people say, including Kim Cattrall herself, that if we were to have a different fourth woman that maybe it would be a woman of color this time. And I think that would be amazing as well."

"I think that's right," Stone added.

Cohen previously floated the idea of Stone taking over the role in a conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker on his show, which she called a "really interesting idea."

In an interview with Daily Mail in 2017, Cattrall gave her two cents, and said someone else should take over the role of Samantha — specifically a woman of color.

"It’s a great part," she said. "I played it past the finish line and then some, and I loved it. Another actress should play it — maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones or a Hispanic Samantha Jones."
