After weeks of speculations and rumors, Dancing With The Stars' season 28 cast was finally revealed this morning on Good Morning America. And most of the celebrity names were met with warm reception, Sean Spicer's casting was met with backlash among fans and even Tom Bergeron, the show's long-time host.

Bergeron took to Twitter soon after the live announcement to share his thoughts no the upcoming season. Although he did not name Spicer directly, he heavily implied that he was not happy with ABC casting President Donald Trump's former press secretary.

“A few months ago, during a lunch with DWTS’ new Executive Producer, I offered suggestions for Season 28," Bergeron wrote in a note that he shared on Twitter. "Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its return following an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations."

Bergeron continued that he "left that lunch convinced we were in agreement," but "a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction.'”

"We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it’s their call," he continued. "I’ll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions."

Bergeron added that, as host, he imagines viewers "looking for a two hour escape from whatever life hassles you've been wrestling with," and hopes they are able to enjoy the upcoming season.

DWTS fans appear to agree with Bergeron, and began chastising ABC online for casting Spicer on the show. Comedian Chelsea Peretti even joined in on the comments, simply tweeting out “no” in a reply to the announcement of Spicer’s casting.

Many fans called for a boycott of the show altogether, claiming that DWTS should not be providing a platform for the reputation-rehabilitation of the former Trump press secretary, who was often associated with providing "alternative facts."

Amongst the hundreds of angry tweets, however, Spicer did receive a few comments giving him words of support.

Season 28 of Dancing With The Stars will air on Monday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
