After premiering in fall 2020, Emily in Paris was renewed for season 2.
Emily in Paris is nominated for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy at the 2021 Golden Globes.
Lily Collins is also nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy.
Sex and the City's Darren Star has returned to the small screen with a romantic comedy reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s love of Paris and chic fashion. Emily in Paris follows young marketing executive Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) after she makes the spontaneous decision to move away for work, putting her life in Chicago on hold. Quickly labeled as the ignorant American who can't speak French, Emily forges ahead at Savoir, the newly acquired French luxury marketing company she agreed to be the liaison of, in the hopes of a promotion when she returns to the Midwest.
But neither her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) nor her neighbor/love interest Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) make the transition easy. Emily finds comfort in her friend Mindy (Ashley Park), but as folks know, the last episode of season 1 leaves everyone in disarray — in other words, we need a second season ASAP.
Here’s what we know about Emily in Paris season 2:
When is season 2 of Emily in Paris premiering?
Emily in Paris has officially been renewed for season 2. Netflix announced the second installment of the show on Instagram with a video of the cast celebrating. There was also a formal letter written by Sylvie letting Emily's boss in Chicago know about the news.
"We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time," the letter reads.
Shortly after the second season of Emily in Paris was announced, Netflix shared an important notice about the proper pronunciation of the show. “Friendly reminder Emily in Paris is supposed to be pronounced with a French accent so 'Emily' and 'Paris' rhyme,” the tweet read.
In other words, the show is actually pronounced “Ah-melie in Par-ee" — a good thing to know before watching season 2!

When will filming for Emily in Paris season 2 begin?
Since season 1 was filmed in the City of Lights, production could be delayed because of travel restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, Darren is crossing his fingers that the cast and crew will be able to safely return to Paris in the near future for season 2.
“If we get picked up, I hope we’ll be back in Paris next spring and things will ease up a little bit,” he told Glamour in October. “I think hopefully we’ll be in a better place by next spring. I really hope so.”
Following Emily in Paris's Golden Globes nomination, Lily spoke with Deadline about the next season and she's also optimistic about returning to set.
“We’re aiming to hopefully be going back soon. Hopefully in spring time. We’re trying to move forward. Again everything is [COVID-19] pending," she told the outlet. "When we got confirmed for season 2 it made us all even more excited and even more anxious to get back. Of course, there are so many regulations right now and we want to be safe, but we want to get back.”
What will Emily in Paris season 2 be about?
While the creator has plenty of ideas for season 2 of Emily in Paris, he admits that he hasn’t thought about where all the different characters will end up. But Darren is definitely set on having Emily come into her own.
"In season 2, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city," he told Oprah Magazine. "She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there."
While Lily doesn’t know what Darren has planned, she thinks it’s still too soon for Emily to get into a relationship. On one hand, there are many people she has yet to meet and on the other hand, she’s just not certain about what she wants.
“I think Emily doesn’t even know [what will happen], and that’s the beauty of the way that they write the show. She has yet to find all the qualities she maybe is looking for,” Lily told Deadline. “But that being said, there is that connection with Gabriel, but now she has Camille in that love triangle, so I think there are still experiences to be had, adventure to be had and she’s still finding herself.”
As for the other personalities on the show, Darren plans on keeping them at the forefront, both at the office and at Parisian restaurants during off hours.
“We'll see more of Emily's work family, absolutely. Especially Sylvie, who I feel like is so mysterious,” he told Glamour. "I want to understand her more and know more about her, without totally knowing, if that makes sense … Any excuse to see more of Mindy, I am all for.”
Lily is also open to digging deeper into everyone's backstories.
"Now that we’ve seen her with all these ‘Parisisms,’ maybe we get to actually get to a bit more of her backstory, and experience that with some of the other characters," she said to Deadline. "But you always know with Emily you’re going to have humor and you’re going to have adventure. There’s going to be no shortage of that coming up — and great fashion.”
