There’s not much that can stand between a beauty fan and her next hair-color appointment. But for Kentucky-based nurse and midwife Carrie Hall, one thing stopped her in mid-highlight: a mom in labor.

Hall was in the process of getting a dye job, CafeMom reports, and, prior to sitting down in the salon chair, even took the precaution of calling the hospital to check in on her expecting client. But midway through her appointment, she got the call that her client was ready to deliver. She rushed off to the hospital — foils and all — and helped deliver a baby boy in 20 minutes. That means a baby was born in less time than it takes for the typical hair dye to set.

On Facebook, Hall shared a photo of herself and her foils holding the new baby with her alma mater, Frontier Nursing University. “1st time for everything! Thought I’d share! I was at the salon and nature called!” she wrote.

She elaborated on the straight-from-a-movie situation to CafeMom. “It was just an ordinary day on call when I thought I’d chance a hair appointment for a color! I called prior to going to my appointment and there was a patient in labor but she wasn’t progressing rapidly,” she explained. “My hair dresser, Demaris, had just finished foiling my hair when the nurses called and said the patient was ready to deliver. The local hospital was five minutes away so … foils and all …. I went to catch a baby!”

Now for the really important news: Hall went back to the salon after delivery to finish her hair. She explained, “momma, baby, and my hair are great!”
