The 'deeply personal' reason this blogger is sharing photos of herself that she hates

Posing in swimwear and showing off skin can be a daunting task for anyone  — and for Ashley, a popular body positivity blogger, that’s no exception.

The social media star had the opportunity to be photographed in swimwear designed by her “ultimate body positivity figure,” Ashley Graham, but when she saw the photos for the first time all she could do was cry.

“I didn’t have any positive thoughts about myself,” she wrote in a soul-baring blog post. “When I saw them I hated every single one.”

“I felt like a huge hypocrite.”

But after reflecting, Ashley decided her commitment towards self-love was more important than any looming insecurities.

“I saw this as a teaching moment. While most people would delete these photos and pretend they never existed — the thought did cross my mind — I decided to share them for the world to see. I shared every single one — if putting myself out there like this can help just one woman feel more secure in her own skin, then it was all worth it to me.”

The photos are stunning, of course, but it goes to show how self-image is more about what you feel on the inside than what’s on the outer. For Ashley, the whole ordeal is a lesson learnt.

“After all the tears and insecurity, I felt some clarity. I need to practice what I preach. Here are some mantras that work for me:

Beauty knows no size.

Every body is beautiful.

I am strong.

I am beautiful.

I am enough.

My worth is not defined by my weight.

I am comfortable in my own skin.

I love my body just the way it is.

I am allowed to take up space.

Preach it, sis!

Even in moments of doubt, it’s inspiring to see Ashley’s devotion to self take charge. Read more about the blogger’s journey here.
