Demi Lovato Dedicated Her Birthday to Breonna Taylor

Demi Lovato Opened Up About the Months Leading to Her Relapse

She spoke at length about her 2018 overdose for the first time.

Instead of rose gold letter balloons and over-the-top festivities, Demi Lovato is choosing to dedicate her birthday to seeking justice for Breonna Taylor. Lovato is celebrating her 28th birthday and writes that Taylor never had the chance to see her 28th. So, in her honor, Lovato is urging her followers and fans to take real action beyond just posting a hashtag or meme — and she's making it very, very easy to do so.

"I'm so lucky to be here today and to have made it to my 28th birthday," she wrote on Twitter. "Join me in taking a stand for Breonna Taylor. #BlackLivesMatter" The tweet links to a Propeller campaign that Lovato explains is "in Breonna's honor."

On the page, Lovato urges everyone to do what they can. The page includes links to contact the mayor of Louisville, the city's chief of police, and petition and donation links.

"Today is my 28th birthday... a birthday that Breonna Taylor will never have the opportunity to experience," the page reads. "No matter how big or small you think your impact may be, if we all stand together we can help bring justice for Breonna Taylor."

Taylor was killed back on March 13 when the police arrived at her apartment serving a no-knock search warrant and shot her. Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, the officers involved in the incident, have been placed on administrative reassignment, but none have faced any criminal charges. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hankison has been fired, but is appealing the decision.
