Diana didn't want to divorce Charles, says her personal trainer

Watch the full interview with Diana’s former personal trainer on episode seven of Yahoo UK’s show ‘The Royal Box, which is available to stream here from Friday 7 September.

Princess Diana didn’t want her marriage to end, says her former personal trainer, Jenni Rivett.

Rivett spent a lot of time with the princess during the darkest times in her marriage, training the royal for three days a week for a seven-year duration. The pair even went on holiday together at one point.

During their sessions together, Diana would often speak to Rivett about her divorce. Which, Rivett claims, Diana didn’t want.

“She wasn’t the one who wanted to separate or have a divorce, it was sprung upon her,” Rivett tells Yahoo UK during episode seven of ‘The Royal Box.’

“At the end of the day it was [Charles and Diana’s] call, but I can tell you right now it wasn’t what she wanted.

“She wanted to be the Princess of Wales, she wanted to be the Queen of people’s hearts, she wanted to be a good mother, which she was, and a good wife.

At the point of their divorce, Rivett says she believed Diana still loved Charles.

“Given the choice, she would have stayed and tried to make a happy marriage.”
