Meet Lieutenant Dan! The two-legged pup lives his life to the fullest — and has now been crowned Cadbury USA’s 2020 Easter Bunny.

This year, Cadbury USA asked America to help decide the face of its next Easter candy commercial and voters delivered.

Lieutenant Dan is the epitome of inspiration, passion and energy, showcasing that no matter what challenges you, you can overcome it,” said Ethan Mandel of the Cadbury Brand team.

With over 4,000 entries in the second annual Cadbury Bunny Tryouts, Lieutenant Dan was one of the ten finalists. Nearly 200,000 ballots were cast for the top ten contenders and ultimately, the adorable pup took home the first-place prize.

Lieutenant Dan or Lou, as he’s affectionately called, “has such an infectious joy for life. He is one of the happiest dogs I have ever owned or met! I swear he is always smiling,” his family told Walkin’ Pets, a pet mobility company.

The Treeing Walker Coonhound was born with his hind legs and tail deformed. He quickly started using only his front legs for support. At six months old, his owners made the difficult decision to amputate his back legs and later his tail, according to Walkin’ Pets.

The “big personality” pup uses a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair to help him run and play just like any other dog. His family hopes that his big bunny win will show people how special handicapped dogs can be.

“Although, owning a handicapable pet is not always easy, trust me it is extra work on our part, I wouldn't trade it for the world. You can't be around him and not be smiling or laughing,” his family said.
