'This is disgusting': The little girl's dress sold in Australia that's outraging parents
A popular Australian online shopping site has caused outrage after advertising a dress for little girls with a slogan some parents say “sexualizes children’s clothing.”
Displaying the words “I’m sexy and I know it,” Ozsale listed the dress as being “beautifully designed clothing for your little one.”
The dress, sold in sizes for kids aged 3 to 9 years, was spotted by a Facebook group called “Let clothes be clothes” and drew immediate criticism from concerned parents.
One Facebook user asked who would think the $9 frock is suitable for a child.
“Can’t believe anyone even suggested this, let alone it being approved, made, stocked and (I can only presume) bought by anyone,” one Facebook user commented. “Who in God’s name thought this was a suitable item for a small child?” another asked. “This is disgusting,” one woman added.
The Ozsale item appears to be now marked as sold and the photo of the dress has been removed from the site.
“We sexualise little girls and then wonder at the problems women face in terms of image,” one frustrated woman wrote. “And I have to blame the parents who actually buy stuff like this or allow their children to wear it.”
