Does the 'unspillable' wine glass really work? We put the SuperDuperStudio Saturn Wine glass to the test

I am a messy person. Like, to the point that after a particularly arm flail-y dinner, which resulted in two beers on a friend’s lap, people started referring to me as “Spill-ary.”

I also love wine — particularly red. So you can see how the two might not necessarily be the best combination.

So when SuperDuperStudio offered to let Yahoo Canada Style test their “unspillable” Saturn Wine glasses — I was intrigued. A wine glass that allows me to be my clumsy self, with no repercussions? Sign me up.

According to their website, “these spacey glasses are our reimagination of a traditional Italian glassblowing technique, which we appropriated to prevent messy spills and stains.”

On first impression, the glasses look beautiful — they’re smaller at the bottom, which creates a Saturn’s rings-like look — and also is to thank for their mess-free promise. They’re also made of lead-free, dishwasher-safe Swedish crystal — so the quality is definitely there.

The glasses come in both a red and white wine size — the red, which is noticeably larger, guarantees no spills for a 6 oz. pour, while the white guarantees a spill-free 5 oz.

While we did manage to spill out a bit of wine a couple of times — we admittedly filled them over their respective spill-free volumes — and let’s be real, we were trying to spill them. If you happened to knock one over during dinner or a Netflix marathon, I think it’s safe to say these would keep you out of harm’s way.

The SuperDuperStudio Saturn Wine glasses retail for $69 USD ($92 CAD) for a set of 2 — and if you’re not a wino, there’s also a whisky version.
