Dolce & Gabbana designer laughs off Selena Gomez uproar after calling her 'ugly'

He may be renowned for his opulent fashions, but Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana could stand to brush up on his apology etiquette.

The Italian designer caused an uproar — and a flurry of angry tweets from fans — after it emerged that he had posted a comment calling Selena Gomez “so ugly” in response to The Catwalk Italia’s tribute to the pop star and actress’s red carpet looks.

When a fellow commenter claimed that Gomez “looks like a Pomeranian dog,” Gabbana replied, “hahahahahaha is true hahahaha.”

It’s almost as if he didn’t realize that the singer is the most followed person on Instagram, which means she has millions of supporters ready and willing to call for boycotts of Dolce & Gabbana and lob insults at Gabbana on social media — which is what’s happening.

Despite the backlash, Gabbana — who has also taken aim at Miley Cyrus and Kate Moss in the past — seemed amused by it all. He began Thursday by posting a screenshot of his catty comment, adding laughing emojis. His #PleaseSaySorryToSelena hashtag, meanwhile, feels more sarcastic than genuine.

He also laughed off some of the angry comments he’s received. His Instagram account now prohibits followers from commenting on his posts, effectively cutting off outraged Gomez fans.

Gomez has yet to address the controversy, but we hope a shipment of Dolce & Gabbana dresses is on its way to her.
