Dolly Parton Just Teased Her New Christmas Special and Fans Are Freaking Out
  • A first look of Dolly Parton’s NBC holiday special Magic Mountain Christmas is here.

  • The story follows the chaotic behind-the-scenes making of a network special filmed at Parton’s own Dollywood.

  • “It’s like a show within a show, a movie within a movie. It’s like really showing what can go wrong and will go wrong,” Parton said.

You may still be cleaning up remnants of Thanksgiving, but Dolly Parton is already channeling the holiday spirit. The teaser for her upcoming NBC holiday special, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, dropped yesterday—and fans are elated by the precious gift of Christmas cheer.

The special is quite a meta-movie-musical. It takes place at Parton’s own amusement park, Dollywood, and features guest stars like Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, and more, who all work together to put on their very own network holiday special, and, of course, chaos ensues.

“It’s the story of the behind the scenes of the making of a network special,” Parton says in the teaser. “It’s like a show within a show, a movie within a movie. It’s like really showing what can go wrong and will go wrong. There’s so much drama, so much craziness.”

Parton added that she suggested filming at Dollywood “because we’ve got the best singers, we’ve got the best bands, we’ve got the best dancers,” she said. And the sneak peek footage features cameos from all of them. The special will also debut new music from Parton and her friends, including a new duet with Fallon called, “Almost Too Early for Christmas.”

Needless to say, fans are pumped to watch the “Jolene” singer and her co-stars take the small screen.

“This is the Christmas gift that will be treasured! Thank you Dolly! Heaps of love!” one person commented on the teaser. “This is the first time I’ve heard about this, and I’m already hooked,” another added. “How beautiful can’t wait,” someone else wrote.

The project is very special to Parton, and she’s just as excited to share it with the world. “I gave all of myself to this project, and wanted people to see my heart,” she said. “I really believe that it’s gonna make a difference, and I hope it will be long lasting, but I certainly think that people are gonna feel better for a good while after this show is over. That’s what I’m hoping.”

Mountain Magic Christmas airs on NBC and begins streaming on Peacock on December 1 at 8 p.m. EST. Joy to the world! That’s what the Queen of Country will bring—she always does, whether or not it’s the holiday season.
