Domino's fires employee for writing the N word on a customer's pizza order

Domino’s has fired an employee for writing the N word on a food order, but the customer says she deserves an apology.

While waiting on a recent pizza order at a Burlington Domino’s in North Carolina, Myasia Nelson, 20, saw that the order board — and her receipt — bore the N word rather than her first name.

“They don’t sound the same, they’re not similar words at all,” Nelson, who could not be reached for comment by Yahoo Lifestyle, told the Greensboro, N.C., local news station WFMY. “Racial discrimination. That’s what I feel like it is because if it were anyone else, they would have never done that.”

Domino’s supervisor Junior Snyder told WFMY that the employee was fired. “We did let the gentleman go, he no longer works for our company,” said Snyder. “I apologized to them several times, and all I can do is make sure it doesn’t happen again and train and make sure everyone understands we don’t tolerate this.” Snyder did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.

The worker blamed miscommunication for the incident. “The employee said he couldn’t hear what she was saying, he asked her twice, and apparently he just didn’t know how to spell it and punched in something is what he said,” said Snyder. “Yes, I told him mistake or no mistake, you can’t work for our company. We’re not like that. We love all customers. That’s why we’re here.”

Nelson told the news station that Domino’s offered her a $50 gift card as a peace offering, which she declined. “My mom told me not to accept it because that $50 is not worth what they did to me, so I denied it.”

“I don’t want my daughter growing up being called the words that they wrote about me or being called any type of name,” she said. According to WFMY, Nelson said that while she accepts Synder’s apology, she wants to hear directly from the man who wrote the slur.

The same racist offenses have occurred at a Missouri IHOP, a Colorado Papa John’s, and a Pennsylvania Zembie’s Sports Tavern. The manager of the last restaurant said the situation was a “misunderstanding.”
