Shop 13 boatneck summer tops inspired by Meghan Markle

If there’s anyone to copy for summer style inspiration, it’s Meghan Markle. And as the Duchess of Sussex has shown us repeatedly, there’s one particular silhouette that is flattering, feminine, and perfectly on trend for summer: the boatneck top.

According to a new report by fashion search engine Lyst, searches for “boatneck” have risen 52 percent over the last two months — a spike that can largely be credited to the new royal. Markle has worn this silhouette three times now. The first was when she was visiting Cardiff, Wales, and wore a checkered boatneck jacket by American label Theory that sold out quickly thereafter. The second time was for Markle’s extravagant royal wedding, at which she wore a simple boatneck gown designed by Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy. And, most recently, Markle attended Trooping the Colour for Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd birthday in a similar silhouette, an off-the-shoulder blush custom dress by Carolina Herrera.

Shoulder-revealing tops and dresses have been a popular summer look for some time now, but Markle’s embrace of them has been especially notable, given that the skin-baring style is a departure from traditional royal protocol (Kate Middleton has seldom been seen wearing short-sleeved tops or dresses). But Markle has not been deterred. In fact, it’s rumored that Prince Harry might have a little something to do with her style choices. “He gives his views on what he thinks looks best, rather than helping her follow Royal protocol on hemlines or anything like that,” a source told the Daily Mail recently. “The joke is that Harry is Meghan’s surprise stylist.”

In any case, if you love Markle’s boatneck and off-the-shoulder looks, shop 13 versions ahead that will make you feel like a royal this summer.
