Dua Lipa’s Viral ‘80s Throwback Look Features This Unexpectedly Sexy Swimsuit Style
If you haven’t thought about the Care Bears in a couple of years (or decades), Dua Lipa is here to change that. Two days ago she reintroduced 5 million people to the ‘80s cartoon with a very tiny bikini. That’s right, Dua Lipa reminded us all of a forgotten children’s show with a very tiny crochet bikini that involves three strategically-placed pink Care Bears on string.

The image went viral because it was unexpectedly sexy while simultaneously being incredibly cute. Apparently, Hot Girl Summer really does look different this year. The bikini is by Italian-label GCDS and was inspired by Giuliano Calza’s recent trip to Tokyo. The brand’s designer told Vogue that after seeing a faded Care Bears poster with the words “I guess everybody stopped caring” while vintage shopping, he felt sad that something that had brought him so much joy as a child had been unremembered. So he incorporated the loveable cartoon into a limited-edition line for GCDS. If his goal was to give the Care Bears new life, he definitely succeeded. They really have never looked like this before, and it’ll be hard to forget the bikini anytime soon.
While Dua’s Care Bears crochet bikini is nearly sold out in every size and perhaps not the most wearable for everyday, the crochet trend itself is absolutely on the rise. Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and Margot Robbie have all worn the vintage look before. They may not be as shocking as Dua’s swimsuit, but they all have an undeniable quirky contrariety to them. Crochet bikinis look like something your grandma might make but definitely wouldn’t approve of. Although maybe the incorporation of Care Bears nostalgia might win her over.
