Duchess of Cambridge hosts Christmas party in festive £7,000 outfit

Reminding us that even royals can’t resist festive dressing, the Duchess of Cambridge attended a Christmas party at Kensington Palace this afternoon in a winter-ready ensemble.

For the outing alongside the Duke of Cambridge, the 37-year-old braved the cold in a £209 cashmere cardigan by Scottish label, Brora. Further upping the festive ante, she tucked the cropped knit into an Emilia Wickstead tartan midi skirt.

Surprisingly, the pleated garment is old-season which spells bad news for those hoping to recreate the look this December.

Demonstrating how accessories can really make an outfit over the Christmas period, the Duchess accessorised the covetable ensemble with a £5,421 Cartier watch, £1,500 Mappin & Webb earrings and a pair of over-the-knee boots.

Though it’s not the first time the royal has given a lesson in festive dressing, as she and the Duchess of Sussex recently twinned on separate public engagements.

The sister-in-laws both stepped out decked in wintry berry hues on November 21.

For a second visit to the Al Manaar Centre in London, the Duchess of Sussex dressed her bump in a £178 dress by Club Monaco which featured a velvet collar.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge recycled a Paule Ka skirt suit which she first wore back in 2012 for a trip to University College London.

To give the ensemble an even more festive finish, the mother-of-three fastened a velvet ribbon in her hair – a style move we’re sure to copy on Christmas Day.

This afternoon’s Kensington Palace event is designed to enable families of deployed personnel serving in Cyprus to celebrate the festive season.

The party features stalls where children can decorate stockings, make Christmas crackers and craft snow globes. There is also a post box at the event for guests to send personalised messages to loved ones serving in Cyprus.

According to Kensington Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s latest engagement is “in recognition of the unique contribution and sacrifices serving personnel and their families make year-round, and especially when they are separated during the festive period”.

Tomorrow, the couple will head to Cyprus where they will hand out the gifts families have given them this afternoon to military personnel.
