Boxing Day is an important time for the Royal Family. Unlike Christmas Day, when the royals including the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle were pictured at church, 26 December tends to be a more private affair spent together at the Sandringham estate.

Those present at Sandringham yesterday included the Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family, and Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall.

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex joined alongside Prince Harry for the second time in a row, and her first as a royal.

Traditionally, members of the royal family eat breakfast together before going out for a pheasant shoot at Wood Farm on the estate.

While typically the shoot has been the reserve of royal men (including Prince Charles, Prince Harry and Prince William), the Queen has previously been known to join the group, and was once pictured wringing the neck of a pheasant in 2000.

An insider told the Daily Mail the shoot took place once again this year, in keeping with tradition.

Take a look back at Meghan’s style file:

They said: “The men went out as usual for the shoot after a hearty breakfast.

“A buffet is laid out of kedgeree, bacon and eggs, cereals and toast to set them up for the day.

“It’s cold trudging across the muddy fields so you need plenty of sustenance.”

It is believed neither the Duchess of Sussex, who is thought to be around six months pregnant, nor the Duchess of Cambridge, who reportedly stayed home at Anmer Hall with her three children, joined the shoot this year.

After the shoot, a cold cuts buffet is traditionally served at Wood Farm including meats and side dishes. Prince Andrew is believed to have also joined this year, according to the Daily Mail, together with daughter Princess Eugenie and her new husband Jack Brooksbank.
