The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge received a warm welcome in South Yorkshire on Wednesday morning, as they arrived to officially open McLaren Automotive’s new Composites Technology Centre in Rotherham.

Kate, wearing a repeat £1,650 blue Eponine coat-dress with navy Rupert Sanderson pumps and a £450 Smythson ‘Panama’ bag, stopped to look at the orange sports car parked outside the centre with husband William.

The site will be used to innovate the process of designing and constructing lightweight carbon fibre ‘tubs’, which form the internal shell of all McLaren cars.

The couple met those working in the factory, which is planned for expansion, creating 200 new jobs for the local area.

They also spoke with some of McLaren’s STEM Ambassadors about their work to encourage children to get involved in science-based learning and careers.

Kate and William then travelled to Barnsley, where they visited one of Centrepoint’s services, which supports over 60 homeless young people from the local area every day. The Duke has been Patron of the charity since 2005.

Their Royal Highnesses helped to prepare lunch in the kitchen before sitting down with residents to talk about their experiences.

“Don’t look at how evenly I cut it,” Kate joked as she sliced up bread, while William prepared soup.

They also officially opened Centrepoint’s new Andy Norman Learning Hub, which has been built to provide resources for young people at risk of homelessness in the area.

The Duke and Duchess attended the Remembrance Day events at the weekend, with Kate accompanying the Queen and Camilla on the balcony of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on Sunday.

The Queen will host a private party for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday with friends and family at Buckingham Palace this evening. Clarence House have released two gorgeous family photos of Charles with his wife Camilla, sons William and Harry and their wives Kate and Meghan with his three grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis to mark the occasion.
