Eating kale every day ‘makes your brain 11 years younger’

It’s been touted as a nutrient-packed superfood – and it turns out munching on kale every day might be the key to preventing your brain going downhill.

People who don’t like the pungent green taste of kale can achieve the same effect with other leafy green vegetables, the researchers say.

Researchers asked volunteers aged 80 and over about their diet – and they completed analyses of cognitive changes.

They found that peole who ate at least one serving of leafy green veg a day showed the equivalent of being 11 years younger, cognitively speaking.

People who ate leafy veg showed a slower rate of decline on tests of memory or thinking than people who never ate them, the study found.

Martha Clare Morris of Rush said, ‘Adding a daily serving of green leafy vegetables to your diet may be a simple way to help promote brain health,.

‘There continues to be sharp increases in the percentage of people with dementia as the oldest age groups continue to grow in number. Effective strategies to prevent dementia are critically needed.’
