Eddie Money Dies Following Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer Diagnosis
Eddie Money, 70, passed away on September 13 following complications from esophageal cancer, heart valve surgery, and pneumonia.
The “Take Me Home Tonight” singer was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer last fall and underwent heart valve surgery in May.
Money is survived by his wife Laurie Money and five children.
Edward Mahoney, known professionally as Eddie Money, has passed away at the age of 70.
The “Take Me Home Tonight” singer was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer last fall and suffered a number of health complications throughout 2019, including heart valve surgery and pneumonia.
Money’s family issued a statement following his death this morning: “The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.”

Money was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer after a routine trip to the doctor’s office. “I thought I was just going in to get a checkup and [the doctor] told me that I got cancer,” Money revealed during his AXS reality TV series, Real Money in August. “It hit me really, really hard.”
“What I don’t want to do is, I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody,” Money continues. “It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody. I want people to know that cancer’s come a long way and not everyone dies from cancer, like they did in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Am I going to live a long time? Who knows. It’s in God’s hands. But you know what, I’ll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day.”
The final six episodes of Real Money focus on how the “Two Tickets to Paradise” singer and his family are dealing with the diagnosis.
Money has experienced a slew of health complications over the past year. TMZ reported that he had to pause cancer treatment to address a heart valve complication unrelated to his cancer after experiencing shortness of breath.
Following his heart valve surgery, Money developed pneumonia and spent three months in the hospital. The singer had to cancel the rest of his tour dates that promoted old classics plus his Brand New Day album, which was released on July 19th.
