Emilia Clarke thanks paramedics for 'making her laugh' following 'traumatic' brain aneurysm
Emilia Clarke has praised the paramedics who lifted her spirits during a “traumatic” journey to the hospital after she suffered from a brain aneurysm.
The Game of Thrones star - who is currently on tour promoting her upcoming romcom Last Christmas - first opened up about her health problems and life-saving surgery back in March.
In a moving essay for The New Yorker, the 33-year-old revealed that she had overcome two haemorrhages - one of which occurred shortly after she wrapped the first season of the HBO fantasy series.

“It was a brain aneurysm that ruptured, and it was pretty traumatic,” Clarke has now reiterated to People magazine, almost nine years after the ordeal began.
“The paramedics were unbelievable. They’d given me drugs so I was in less pain, wrapped me up like a tortilla and made me laugh the whole way to the hospital. There I was, bleeding in the brain, and there we were, in this ambulance, having an absolute giggle. They were so gracious.”
They weren’t the only ones that the Me Before You star thanked during the chat. Clarke also recalled how her mum would make her “believe she understood exactly what [she] was saying” despite the former having aphasia, which meant she struggled to speak.
“She looked at me and went, ‘Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It was genuinely her greatest moment.”

Talking about both incidents to CBS back in April, Clarke remembered how playing beloved GoT character Daenerys Targaryen got her through some of her darkest moments during recovery.
“You got on set and you play a bada** and you walk through fire, and that became the thing that saved me from considering my mortality,” she noted.
