Vinny picks up Paul’s bad habits
It’s a case of ‘like father, like son’ as Vinny makes a discovery among Paul’s belongings – a notebook containing insider info on future racing tips.
Rather than bin it, Vinny instead decides to use his dad’s racing know-how as a way of paying back the credit card debts that Paul accrued in Lydia’s name. But Mandy isn’t exactly thrilled at the sight of Vinny getting caught up in the drama of a race after placing a secret bet.

And when the horse he’s backed proves to be a winner, there’s real concern that Vinny is also on the path to becoming a gambling addict.
Mandy takes action
So, with Vinny on her mind, Mandy decides that she needs to take responsibility for the situation off his shoulders. But, being a Dingle, she opts for a less-than-legit solution. After all, why bother setting a good example when it looks like there’s a chance to make some easy money?
Hence Mandy paying Mack a visit at Butlers Farm and telling him that she’ll blow the whistle if he doesn’t cut her in on whatever underhanded scam he’s got going on. Realising she won’t take no for an answer, Mack agrees. But it isn’t long before the two of them are in grave danger.
And yes, this does happen at the end of the first part of Thursday’s double bill – the traditional time for characters being placed in peril.
Where’s Ethan’s mum?
As good as newcomer Ethan is, it does feel as though he’s arrived pre-loaded with some cliched soap dilemmas to wrestle with. Let’s face it, this “where’s my missing mum?” scenario isn’t exactly ground-breaking, but at least actor Emile John is making a good fist of portraying Ethan’s issues with abandonment.
And next week, it looks as though there’ll be further disappointment on the cards when Ethan asks Manpreet to accompany him on a meeting to see his mother, only for mummy dearest to not show up.
But as Ethan faces up to the disappointment of his mum not wanting to know him, Manpreet frets that she’s getting too involved with his and Charles’s family dynamics. Oughtn’t she to be concentrating more on Rishi, who has a birthday to celebrate? Something tells me that the pull of the past will prove to be more exciting than what Manpreet has in her present.
Tracy gets narky with Nate
Some weeks on Emmerdale, you get barns exploding thanks to runaway haulage trucks. And in other weeks, you get storylines such as this. Yes, it’s David running over Nate’s foot and leaving the new dad in agony.
But this minor injury could have a sizeable impact on Nate’s relationship with Tracy, who’s soon under increased strain now that he’s out of action around the house. And worse is to come when Tracy finds a worrying lump on baby Frankie’s tummy and heads off to the doctors in a state of panic.
