Erin Krakow Has an Important Message for ‘When Calls the Heart’ Fans About Elizabeth's Love Triangle

  • There are just a few episodes left in When Calls the Heart season 8 and Elizabeth has yet to choose between her two suitors, Nathan and Lucas.

  • Right before the season premiered, Hallmark Channel revealed that the Elizabeth-Nathan-Lucas love triangle would finally end after nearly two seasons of back and forth.

  • In time for the big reveal, Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth, offers an important reminder to fans in a new interview with Good Housekeeping.

Hearties, Erin Krakow feels our pain. After two seasons of watching Elizabeth wrestle between Nathan and Lucas, she's just as ready for her character to make up her mind as we are.

Leading up to the season 8 premiere of When Calls the Heart in February, Hallmark Channel dropped a 30-second teaser, revealing that Elizabeth would finally make a decision about her love life in the episodes ahead. In subsequent interviews, Erin mentioned that her character's big reveal wouldn't happen until later in the season — and Hearties, we're nearly there.

The last few episodes have showed just how much Elizabeth is struggling with this decision: One week Nathan professed his love to a clearly conflicted Elizabeth, and the next she was running into Lucas' arms. The show will likely keep Hearties guessing right up until the very end, but in a new interview with Good Housekeeping, Erin confirms that she's "very happy" with the end result. Really, in her eyes, there's no way Elizabeth can make a wrong decision — and perhaps, that's what makes the love triangle so frustrating for fans in the first place.

Since the early days of the Elizabeth-Nathan-Lucas love triangle, Hearties have aired their concerns about Elizabeth's "shameful" behavior on social media. Many have written messages to the show's creator Brian Bird about how the love triangle has changed Elizabeth for the worse. He routinely responds to the critics, even saying that he's "not sure how one Heartie can speak for a majority of the 3 million #Hearties watching."

Erin is the first to admit that she's eager to wrap up this chapter in Elizabeth's story, but recognizes the tremendous weight that comes with such a "tough decision," especially since fans are evenly split between #TeamNathan and #TeamLucas. When the big day finally comes, Erin hopes fans will put their "passionate, much-appreciated" feelings aside and support Elizabeth's second chance at true love. "Remember just how challenging her journey has been, how emotional it was for her to lose Jack. Try to reframe your support of one gentleman caller over the other into support for Elizabeth and her journey to find love again."

Even if there is some temporary disappointment (hey, there's a 50/50 chance for each guy), the actress reminds us that the show has all of our best interest at heart. Hear her out: "This also isn't a situation where only one guy gets the girl and the other one leaves town. We are so lucky to have both Kevin McGarry [plays Nathan] and Chris McNally [plays Lucas] on the show and intend to keep both of them, assuming that we get to have future seasons."
